A planned bass trip but with winds set to increase in the afternoon, the lads agreed to move inshore for the ebb tide to target plaice.  In the morning we targeted bass having found good numbers of mackerel live bait off Bournemouth Pier. The bassing was fairly slow with just four landed between 3lb and 6lb, although a few more were lost.  In the afternoon, just over three hours of fishing close inshore off Southbourne produced 14 plaice to 3lb plus a few gurnard and bream.  Overall, a pleasant day in weather conditions that were more like mid summer than mid October.

Another enjoyable day targeting plaice inshore.  The fishing was down on yesterday with just seven landed.  The catch again included gurnard and bream.

An attempt by Blandford SAC to target bream on the wrecks and ground well offshore.  Unfortunately, within an hour of arriving at our mark, the easterly wind had increased to a force 5.  Conditions were acceptable during the last of the ebb tide, but when the tide turned it was time to head inshore.  Fishing on the ebb produced just one bream, a couple of tope, one very small cod and some mackerel and scad.  The afternoons fishing was carried out in the shelter of Poole Harbour.  More bream were caught together with tub gurnard, mackerel, scad and pout.  Many thanks to the guys for agreeing to stick it out all day.

With the boat sold and the handover to Malcolm Collins complete, its off to join a yacht in Gran Canaria to begin a month long voyage to Rio.  I'll be back in Poole in early December, but in the meantime, if you are interested in knowing how the sailing trip is going, then click on the picture of the yacht to visit the website of the expedition.
